In 1994, Dr. Mary Humm and Sachiko Mori, two North Texas musicians, founded the McKinney Chamber Music Society which was later renamed the McKinney Musical Arts Society. Their vision was to bring high quality musical programs to McKinney and to sponsor an annual piano competition for high school students. Our mission statement is as follows:

The McKinney Musical Arts Society is dedicated to excellence in performance that fosters musical enjoyment, education and awareness. Our primary purpose is to support the McKinney Young Artist Competition for pianists while bringing quality musical performances to McKinney. We are committed to diverse and creative musical productions, supporting the performing arts, and encouraging young artists.

The Competition takes place at the Church Street Performance Hall, a short walk from the McKinney Square.

The McKinney Square is the shopping and entertainment center of the City which
Money Magazine
declared the
best small city in America for 2014.
